Internship Position Ð Volunteer Coordination Assistant

Denver Urban Gardens (DUG) is a nonprofit organization, dedicated to building community, one urban garden at a time.  Denver Urban Gardens has built and currently manages over 60 community gardens, small parks and the DeLaney Community Farm.  We strongly believe that gardens are not only a source of inexpensive food for urban people, but also a place of connection to develop community, promote healthy living, develop skills and empower individuals to strengthen and beautify their communities.

 

We are looking for motivated interns with a sincere interest in community building and willingness to work hard.  DUG, like the vegetables in each garden, is a small organization in the process of growing and developing.  The energy and motivation of the staff and intern team is essential to DUGÕs success.

 

Job Description:

The Volunteer Coordination Assistant will assist in work project coordination, construction and maintenance of garden sites and various garden and office projects.

 

           Responsibilities include:

á      Assist with work days including pre-day planning and coordination, workday organization and training volunteers.

á      Help to lead work days in gardens and community farm.

á      Coordinate construction and maintenance of garden sites.

á      Help with general field work.

á      Assist with general office work.

 

Skills Needed:

á      Experience with volunteers and construction projects desired.

á      Interest in community gardens.

á      Self-motivated.

á      Ability to do outdoor, physically demanding work.

á      Comfortable in diverse settings and diverse communities.

á      Prefer college juniors, seniors, or graduates.

Timeframe for Internship:

Four-month commitment with flexible hours averaging 20 hours per week commitment for a total of 340 internship hours.
