Internship Position - Program Intern

 

Agency Mission:

Denver Urban Gardens (DUG) is a nonprofit organization, dedicated to building community, one urban garden at a time.  Denver Urban Gardens has built and currently manages over 70 community gardens, small parks and the DeLaney Community Farm.  We strongly believe that gardens are not only a source of inexpensive food for urban people, but also a place of connection to develop community, promote healthy living, develop skills and empower individuals to strengthen and beautify their communities.

 

We are looking for motivated interns with a sincere interest in community building and willingness to work hard.  DUG, like the vegetables in each garden is a small organization in the process of growing and developing.  The energy and motivation of the staff and intern team is essential to DUGÕs success.

 

Job Description:

The Program Intern will be responsible for helping with program coordination, distribution of materials, event planning, office needs and general office and field projects.

 

Responsibilities include:

á       Assist with program administration for programs including the Free Seed and Transplant Program and the Master Composter Program,

á       Assist with development and distribution of DUG publications and outreach materials,

á       Assist with grant research, grant writing and materials coordination,

á       Help with community building and education events,

á       Assist with office coordination including fielding requests for garden spots and other questions,

á       Update database,

á       Help with general field work including garden improvements and work days,

á       Assist with general office work.

 

Skills Needed:

á       Willingness to help with a variety of programs and tasks.

á       Well organized and self-motivated.

á       Willingness to collaborate with staff, community gardeners and other interns.

á       Comfortable in diverse settings and diverse communities.

á       Prefer college juniors, seniors, or graduates.

á       Spanish language skills desired, but not required.

Timeframe for Internship:

Summer internship runs April-August with a 16-20 hour per week commitment.  Spring, Fall and Winter internships require a three-month commitment with an 8-12 hour per week commitment.  Internship can take place year-round.
