Green tomatoes

Can't wait for all those green tomatoes to ripen? Try this easy recipe....

Curried Green Tomatoes

2 Tbsp butter
1/2 onion, chopped fine
1-1/2 tsp curry powder
pinch cayenne pepper
2 cup coarse-chopped green tomatoes
salt

Melt butter in a skillet, add onion and cook slowly until the onion is transparent. Add curry powder and blend well. Stir on the cayenne pepper and green tomatoes. Cook, stirring, for 3-4 minutes. Add salt to taste. The tomatoes should be barely cooked. May be served hot or cold. Makes 4 servings.

Community Garden Cook-off Winning Recipes

On Sunday, September 28th, over 25 community gardeners gathered from across the metro area at DUG's Rosedale Community Garden to celebrate the bounty of the season.  Gardeners were asked to submit potluck items that were created with at least 75% of ingredients they or someone they knew grew.  The difficult task of judging was graciously accepted by Eric Stein, a chef instructor at Johnson & Wales University and Natasha Calvert, the marketing manager at Whole Foods Market, Tamarac.  Click the link below for the 3 winning recipes submitted at the Cook-off.  DUG would like to thank all the community gardeners and judges that participated in this challenge and we look forward to many future events to connect community gardeners throughout the city!

Information for community gardeners -
Thanks for all your hard work and another great season!  The local weather forecasts are calling for a freeze this weekend.  If you still have tomatoes on the vine or other produce in the garden, you may want to think of harvesting it sometime this week.  In addition, water shut-off at the gardens started today.  If you have questions about this, you can call our office at 303.292.9900.

Welcome to DUG's Community Blog!

We are very excited about this opportunity to share events, information and news with you in this interactive format!  And even as frost is approaching, we here at DUG are already busily planning for next season and we would love to hear from you.
